Many service members could write a book about their wild and crazy enlistments, but I actually did. Fueled by multiple emotions after my discharge, I decided to redirect a lot of my anger towards something productive. People were shocked by my milder stories and disgusted by my worst. Though I’m somewhat regretful of the material, I am truthful to bring credibility to the book. Most importantly, it was a way to reflect and help me understand my transformation from an innocent teenager to a jaded veteran.
This book includes commentary some veterans will say, active members can’t repeat, and what delusional people will never admit. Aside from the military related content, readers will be engaged by my “coming of age” story as I find myself through my associations in several underground groups.

I'm a Navy vet and I don't remember my whole enlistment being ONLY about getting drunk and getting laid. Maybe I was and am naiive but it seems to me that there is more to life then just those two things. I stopped reading after 40% of the book because this author was obsessed with booze and nookie, chapter after chapter after chapter. But then again, I'm old but I wasn't old when I was in the Navy.Product details

Other Than Honorable A Sailor Tale eBook Nikolaus Collins Reviews
Humorous though not especially well written. It does contain many stories that are interesting, especially to someone who was in the Navy.
For the author's first production it was a good read. The content is explicit and not for those easily offended. I look forward to more work from this author and see his growth as a writer.
I was just overall unimpressed by this book. Does the military suck sometimes? Yes. Can it sometimes screw you over? Sure. But that's the military, and if we're all honest with ourselves, 9/10 when the Navy "screwed us over" it was because of something we did. While it wasn't always the case, it seemed as if the majority of the author's mishaps were the result of his personal decisions. I saw it throughout my time in the service; a sailor would do something, get caught, and then blame the Navy for the punishments he was awarded.
As an author, though, Collins will do well I think. He has a great writing style that flows easily.
This book is a very interesting look at the Navy and military as a whole. As someone who has never been in the military, it was pretty fascinating to read about someone's first hand experience. It's hard to know what really goes on as a civilian, and I think the author does an excellent job of recounting his experience and putting you in his shoes. The author is very good at reading into situations and making thought provoking commentary on it. Mr. Collins is going places as an author and I am personally very excited to read his future work.
I read this because it was about the Navy, and I am married to a retired Senior Chief. I hoped it would be amusing, but it was a disgustingly whiny account of someone's unhappiness and surprise at being given less than an honorable discharge after they used drugs extensively, displayed a bad
attitude, and had anger episodes. The end was that he felt successful because now he is an author. Ugh, can't believe I wasted my time reading this trash.
As a current active duty sailor I had to give this book a shot. I cant say the book was bad but it wasnt particularly good, it was okay. I think its very real, its the kind of stories from real navy sailors that are not portrayed on movies or TV. Sailors can be very negative people, we do deal with alot of BS on the regular, many of those things are greatly portrayed in the book, great examples of atrocious leadership, the targeting, the backstabbing, the fakeness of the people you work with, the double standards are all very real. I would recommend this book to anyone that is thinking about joining the military, especially the Navy.
On a different note and I must warn of spoilers, Collins was not the most exemplary sailor. Doing drugs, prostitution, drinking irresponsibly, disrespecting women, hanging out with gangbangers can only lead to trouble, especially while in the service. In fact that is probably one of the dumbest decisions you can make. As I was reading I predicted the ending because I have seen it happen many times.
I gave this drivel one star only because it was necessary to write a review. What a waste of my time and money. Right from the first couple pages it became apparent that nothing in this man's life was his fault. His penchant for Soft Porn does nothing to enhance his story, in fact just makes him look sleazy. Nothing in this story rings true, perhaps it's merely his of how he wished it were. DO NOT BUT THIS SELF-SERVING TRASH ITS A WASTE OF MONEY. In short it's a lousy, disgusting read.
But then again, I'm old but I wasn't old when I was in the Navy.
